A collapsed star so dense that not even light can escape. The glowing ring is the accretion disk — matter torn apart and superheated as it spirals inward at nearly the speed of light. Every photon here is ray-marched along a curved path, so the far side of the disk bends up and over the shadow, and the thin bright circle hugging the darkness is the photon ring, light that looped the hole before reaching you.
